7 Jul
Summary
- Officials directed to desilt drains to prevent monsoon flooding.
- City-wide drive to eliminate Garbage Vulnerable Points ordered.
- Zone-wise survey of stray dogs mandated for control measures.

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg has initiated comprehensive monsoon preparedness measures. Officials were directed to proactively de-silting geddas and stormwater canals to prevent potential flooding during the upcoming rainy season. This directive emphasizes the critical role of effective sanitation management.
Engineering and Public Health Departments are collaborating on a detailed action plan. The goal is to ensure uninterrupted flow of sewage and rainwater through city drains. Furthermore, a city-wide initiative has been launched to permanently eliminate all Garbage Vulnerable Points, transforming these areas into green spaces.
Strict enforcement against open dumping is also a priority, with penalties planned for violations near residential and commercial areas. The efficient operation of CLAP vehicles for door-to-door garbage collection will be monitored, and any lapses will result in disciplinary action. A zone-wise survey of stray dog populations has been ordered to facilitate targeted control strategies.
