The Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) is implementing a new provision for a green belt along the city's Ring Road and other major routes. Permitted uses in this zone are limited to specific public and eco-friendly activities, including petrol pumps, playgrounds, parks, stadiums, and zoos. Any construction near major roads like Azamgarh Road and GT Road requires prior map approval from the VDA. Unauthorized construction will be deemed illegal, leading to strict action under the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, including demolition and other penalties.
