Varanasi has achieved a significant environmental milestone, securing a Guinness World Record for planting an astounding 251,446 saplings within a single hour. This impressive feat took place in the Sujabad Domari area on a Sunday, effectively surpassing China's 2018 record. The certification was officially granted by Guinness World Records adjudicator Rishinath.
The UP government coordinated a large-scale plantation over nearly 350 bighas, transforming it into an urban forest. This initiative involved numerous government departments, institutions, and social organizations, along with extensive participation from military personnel and student volunteers.
To promote rapid and dense growth, the Miyawaki technique was employed. This method is expected to yield a thick green cover within two to three years. Furthermore, a comprehensive irrigation system, including a 10.8-km pipeline and 360 rain gun systems, has been installed to ensure the saplings' survival and facilitate future revenue generation.
Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari emphasized that this project harmoniously blends Kashi's dedication to ecological preservation with strategic long-term economic planning. The newly established forest area has been thoughtfully divided into 60 sectors, each named after prominent Kashi ghats.
