Vadodara Lakes Choked by Pollution

Studies presented at the International Conference on Resilience in Vadodara have underscored significant environmental and social issues within the city. An assessment of local lakes and the Vishwamitri river found critically low dissolved oxygen and high pH levels, primarily caused by untreated sewage, solid waste dumping, and industrial effluents, necessitating urgent remediation efforts and stricter regulations. Furthermore, a field study focusing on brick kiln workers exposed prevalent wage violations, inadequate living conditions, and a lack of awareness regarding labor rights, impacting children's education.

The conference also tackled urban mobility concerns, with research highlighting accessibility and traffic flow challenges in areas overseen by the Vadodara Urban Development Authority. Recommendations included enhancing public transport systems and developing essential pedestrian infrastructure to improve connectivity. These findings were showcased at the KHOJ exhibition, featuring 31 interdisciplinary research projects involving numerous students and faculty members.
