UP Aims for Year-Round Clean Air by 2047
6 Dec
Summary
- UP plans to maintain 'good' AQI in urban areas by 2047.
- Dust-free routes and mechanical sweeping will combat pollution.
- Urban green cover to increase to 33%, boosting climate resilience.

Uttar Pradesh is embarking on an ambitious master plan to guarantee clean air across its urban centers throughout the year, targeting a 'good' Air Quality Index by 2047. This comprehensive strategy includes developing dust-free routes along high-traffic corridors and enhancing road construction to global standards. Mechanical sweeping facilities will also be expanded on major and residential roads.
The plan also addresses construction and demolition waste by establishing city-level recycling networks and enforcing on-site dust control measures with penalties for non-compliance. A significant focus is placed on increasing urban green cover to 33% through Miyawaki forests and green belts, which will help regulate temperatures and combat climate change.
Furthermore, smart air monitoring sensors will be installed statewide, providing citizens with real-time AQI data. This initiative aims to boost public awareness and furnish scientific data for informed policy decisions, ultimately contributing to healthier and more sustainable urban environments.
