Uttar Pradesh is expanding its eco-tourism initiatives, shifting focus beyond tigers to encompass birds, wetlands, and forests. This strategic move emphasizes understanding and appreciating the diverse habitats that support wildlife.
With over Rs 231 crore approved for 70 eco-tourism projects between fiscal years 2022-23 and 2025-26, the state is investing in infrastructure. These include nature trails, interpretation facilities, watchtowers, and informative signage across various natural destinations.
Significant funding is directed towards specific areas, such as Rs 8 crore for signage at Dudhwa in the Terai region and nearly Rs 14 crore for development near Ranipur Tiger Reserve. Wetlands are being highlighted as a distinct wildlife circuit, especially during winter migratory bird seasons.
The state is also promoting specialized circuits, like the Sarus Circuits in Etawah and Mainpuri, dedicating over Rs 7 crore to link habitats of the state bird. This approach aims to deepen visitor engagement with conservation and local ecosystems.
