UP's 100 Ponds Per District Project for Health
27 Feb
Summary
- Uttar Pradesh will develop 100 model ponds in each district.
- The project aims to eliminate grey water discharge and plastic waste.
- The initiative is part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin).

In a significant statewide environmental endeavor, Uttar Pradesh is set to transform 100 ponds in each district into model water bodies. This initiative, spearheaded by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, targets the enhancement of rural health and water quality.
The project, operating under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) and managed by the Panchayati Raj department through the 'Mera Talab Meri Zimmedari' campaign, will initially focus on villages with populations exceeding 5,000. Officials recognize the critical role of rural ponds in groundwater recharge, irrigation, and biodiversity.
To combat pollution from untreated grey water and plastic waste, selected ponds will be declared no-plastic zones. Advanced bio-filter systems and plastic traps will be installed. Community involvement will be key to sustaining these improvements, with expectations of reduced mosquito-borne diseases and better sanitation.
