21 Feb
Summary
- The UK's largest wildlife crossing is under construction.
- The bridge aims to link habitats for animals and people.
- Completion of the A417 wildlife bridge is expected by 2027.

A groundbreaking wildlife bridge, set to be the UK's largest, is under construction in Gloucestershire, with completion anticipated by 2027. This significant eco-crossing is a central element of the £460 million A417 Missing Link project. The bridge aims to reconnect habitats separated by the new dual carriageway.
Measuring 37 metres in length, the wildlife corridor will feature grassland and hedgerows designed to facilitate safe passage for a variety of species. This includes bats and barn owls using dedicated hedgerows, and deer, badgers, and reptiles benefiting from the grassland and additional trees.
Beyond its ecological function, the green bridge will also serve as a route for walkers, cyclists, and horse riders. Project leaders emphasize the collaborative effort and positive outcomes for both nature and people. This initiative highlights a commitment to sustainable development and infrastructure projects that benefit the environment.
