UK Town Buried Under 20FT 'Mega Dump' Rubbish Pile

Residents in a UK town are enduring misery and an unpleasant odour emanating from a 20-foot mountain of rubbish. This imposing "mega dump" is visible from streets away, with household items, furniture, and children's discarded belongings forming the towering heap. The issue was first noticed in March by a neighbouring business and reported to the Environment Agency.

Local authorities have since issued a temporary stop notice to MD Waste Management Ltd, as the site lacked planning permission for waste transfer activities. Investigations are ongoing, with a 56-day period required before the extensive clean-up process can begin. This clean-up is estimated to cost nearly half a million pounds.

Concerns have been raised about potential vermin and the general state of the area. Local council officials stated they are working with the Environment Agency and Greater Manchester Police on the matter. They are also working with the landowner to ensure compliance with the stop notice and the eventual removal of the waste.
