UK Snow Alert: Arctic Blast Brings Freezing Temperatures
12 Feb
Summary
- Yellow snow and ice warnings issued for northern UK areas.
- Up to 10cm of snow predicted in isolated locations above 300 metres.
- Icy roads and travel disruption are expected later in the week.

Freezing Arctic air is currently impacting the UK, with the Met Office issuing yellow weather warnings for snow and ice across northern Scotland and England. These warnings are in effect from Thursday evening through midday on Friday. Accumulations of 2-5cm of snow are possible above 200 metres, with up to 10cm expected in a few locations above 300 metres.
In Scotland, snow showers are anticipated to reach lower levels from Thursday evening onwards. On low ground, 1-2cm of snow may accumulate by Friday morning, while hills above 300 metres could see 2-5cm, and locally up to 10cm. The UK Health Security Agency has also issued a cold health alert for several regions in northern England.
Forecasters predict that the snow and ice will clear south during the early hours of Friday. However, temperatures will remain significantly below average, leading to ice on untreated surfaces and potentially dangerous road conditions. Further travel disruption is possible later in the week due to snow showers and icy roads as the cold air mass extends southwards.
