Petition Surges to Limit Fireworks Noise and Protect Animals

As of October 24th, 2025, a growing movement of pet owners and animal welfare advocates is pushing the UK government to take action against the noisiest fireworks. Campaigners believe that the current regulations, which allow for consumer fireworks with a maximum noise level of 120 decibels, are causing undue distress and harm to animals.

The RSPCA has been at the forefront of this effort, reporting the "devastation, injury and loss of life of animals" that occur each year due to the impact of loud fireworks. In response, a new petition on the UK Parliament website is calling for the law to be changed, reducing the maximum noise level to 90 decibels. The petition has already garnered over 48,000 signatures, surpassing the threshold for an official government response.

The Department for Business and Trade has acknowledged the concerns raised, stating that the government recognizes the potential negative impacts of fireworks on vulnerable individuals, groups, and animals. However, they also note that fireworks, when used responsibly, are a source of enjoyment for many people. The department says it works closely with animal welfare organizations and local authorities to provide guidance on minimizing the adverse effects of fireworks.
