UK Braces for 34C Heatwave: Alerts Issued
4 Jul
Summary
- Heat health alerts are active in most of England due to rising temperatures.
- Peak temperatures of 34C are forecast for Thursday or Friday.
- A hosepipe ban will start on July 10th in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Heat health alerts are in effect across most of England from Sunday until Saturday as the UK anticipates another spell of hot weather, with peak temperatures potentially reaching 34C.
Temperatures in the south-east are forecast to climb to 29C on Sunday, approaching the low 30s next week. This prolonged period of hot weather is not expected to be as intense as last month's heatwave. The UK Health Security Agency has issued yellow heat health alerts, noting minor impacts on health and social care services.
These alerts highlight an increased risk to life for vulnerable individuals and a greater chance of water-related incidents like cold water shock and drowning. In response to the dry conditions, Southern Water will implement a hosepipe ban in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight starting on July 10th.
While southern England and Wales will experience the highest temperatures, northern areas will remain cooler with some rain, creating a north-south temperature split. This forecast follows a period of extreme heat last month, which saw provisional record-breaking temperatures in June.
