UK Braces for -7C Arctic Blast
4 Nov
Summary
- Temperatures could plummet to -7C in Scotland and northern England.
- The cold snap is expected to bring snow flurries to western Scotland.
- A brief warm spell might follow, with temperatures reaching 16C.

A severe cold snap is anticipated across the UK, with forecasts indicating temperatures could fall as low as -7C starting November 12. Western Scotland and northern England are identified as the coldest regions, with lows of -7C predicted for central Scotland and -3C to -4C in areas like Cumbria and Northumbria. These temperatures are significantly below the typical November range of 4C to 11C.
Snow flurries are also a possibility, with parts of western Scotland, such as Ayrshire, potentially seeing the first winter snowfall next week. Meteorologists from Metdesk, using WXCharts technology, suggest this period of extreme cold will be brief. A subsequent warming trend is predicted, with temperatures possibly rising to 16C later in November.
The Met Office's long-range forecast for November 8-17 predicts temperatures to be slightly below average initially, followed by a rise. "Colder interludes" and more unsettled conditions are expected towards the latter half of the month.
