17 Oct
Summary
- Udupi campaign collects used footwear for underprivileged schoolchildren.
- The initiative aims for 15,000 pairs, up from over 9,000 previously.
- Inspired by Green Sole Foundation's upcycling since 2016.
A significant footwear donation campaign, 'Nadige, Savira Hejjegalige Nimma Koduge,' is underway in Udupi from October 23 to 25 at MGM College. This initiative encourages individuals to donate used slippers and shoes in good condition.
The campaign aspires to collect at least 15,000 pairs of footwear, a substantial increase from the over 9,000 pairs gathered in its prior iteration. The effort is inspired by the Green Sole Foundation's ongoing work since 2016, which upcycles discarded footwear into useful items for underserved communities.
Avinash Kamath, who leads the Udupi campaign, was motivated by Green Sole's impact, which has benefited over eight lakh individuals across more than 23 states. He urges residents to contribute their unused, yet viable, footwear, emphasizing waste reduction and social welfare.
Organizers anticipate around 100 volunteers to assist with donations. Footwear of all types will be accepted, excluding children's shoes for those under nine and women's high heels. The founders of Green Sole Foundation are expected to attend.
