On September 27, 2025, Dinesh Bovi, a cyclist from Udupi, returned to his hometown after completing a remarkable 3,300 km journey from Udupi to Ladakh over the past 11 months. Dinesh, the son of Parvati and Sheshu Bovi, set out on his cycle expedition on October 15, 2024, with the aim of spreading a message of environmental conservation.
During his 11-month trek, Dinesh traversed eight Indian states, starting from Karnataka and then passing through Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and finally reaching Jammu & Kashmir. Though the journey could have been completed sooner, Dinesh had to take a one-month break in Mumbai and a three-month stay in Gujarat due to limited road access to Thang village in Kashmir.
Interestingly, a dog named Charlie joined Dinesh midway through the Karnataka-Goa border and accompanied him on the entire 326-day journey to Ladakh, before returning home with him. Dinesh's alma mater, Kalyanpur Milagres College, warmly felicitated him on Saturday for his extraordinary accomplishment, which was supported by the college's principal, Vincent Alva, and attended by various dignitaries.
Dinesh's journey, which cost approximately Rs 1.5 lakh, was funded through the support of donors and alumni coordinated by the college. Alva, a cyclist himself, also contributed a cycle to Dinesh and encouraged him throughout the journey. Dinesh expressed that his achievement was 90% due to Alva's guidance and support.
