The wedding couple, Jamaica Aguilar and Jade Rick Verdillo, decided to proceed with their ceremony despite forecasts of heavy rain and rising floodwaters. They stayed up late discussing options, ultimately choosing to continue with the wedding.

Favila, working for the Associated Press, rushed to the scene after hearing about the flooded wedding. Facing his own challenges with the rising water, he managed to capture iconic shots of the bride. He described the photos as depicting 'love in the middle of a disaster,' a mixture of happiness, sadness, and resilience.

The viral images drew international attention, with some comparing the scene to a movie. Experts noted that the juxtaposition of traditional wedding imagery with the disaster scene made the photos particularly impactful. Despite the challenging circumstances, the couple views their wedding day as a special and unforgettable moment. Verdillo stated that even though it wasn't how they planned it, he wouldn't change anything about that day, highlighting their determination and resilience.
