25 Aug
Summary
- Waste segregation is now mandatory or collection will be refused.
- Four waste categories include wet, dry, sanitary, and hazardous.
- New color codes simplify waste segregation for residents.
Trichy corporation has implemented new stringent waste management rules, effective immediately. Domestic waste must now be segregated into four distinct types as per Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. Failure to comply means sanitary workers will refuse collection.
Wet and dry waste will be collected daily, while sanitary waste will be collected in red bins and special care waste in black bins only on Wednesdays. This initiative aims to boost the current 65% source segregation rate through intensified public awareness campaigns.
