9 Sep
Summary
- Trichy has reclaimed 69 of 124 identified garbage vulnerable points.
- Beautified spots now use scrap materials and refurbished furniture.
- E-waste collection agency talks are underway for doorstep pickup.
The city corporation of Trichy has made significant progress in reclaiming garbage vulnerable points (GVPs), with 69 out of 124 identified spots now restored. This effort has gained momentum as the civic body promotes waste source segregation and doorstep waste collection. Beautifying these public spaces, which often involves using scrap materials and refurbished furniture, educates residents against littering.
Operations head Kishore Mohan stated that beautified areas have seen improved solid waste collection efficiency and no new littering spots have emerged. Residents near these transformed GVPs are encouraged to participate in doorstep collection. While the project has been praised, challenges remain with obtaining permissions from central government properties.
To further bolster waste management, 10 wards are promoting segregation, including collecting sanitary waste separately. Talks are also in progress with an e-waste collection agency for convenient doorstep pickups, enhancing the city's comprehensive waste management strategy.
