Toronto Suffocates: Wildfire Smoke Chokes City Air

Toronto is currently experiencing the poorest air quality among major global cities. Smoke from wildfires in northwestern Ontario has enveloped the city, leading to "very high risk" air quality readings that are forecast to persist through Thursday night.

This environmental crisis is attributed to the extensive wildfire activity across Canada, with more than 800 active fires reported. These fires have consumed approximately 1.9 million hectares of land so far.

The smoke's impact extends beyond Toronto, significantly affecting air quality in the northeastern United States. States such as New York and Pennsylvania have issued health alerts, advising residents to limit strenuous outdoor activities.

Experts anticipate that such severe air quality events, exacerbated by warmer temperatures, may become more frequent in the coming decades, necessitating greater preparedness from urban centers and their residents.
