Tiruchi Parks Lie Abandoned: Neglect Mars Green Spaces
18 Jul
Summary
- About 300 public parks in Tiruchi are unused due to poor maintenance.
- Many parks established between 2018 and 2021 are in disrepair.
- Parks lack caretakers, leading to locked gates and overgrown vegetation.

Several public parks across Tiruchi, numbering around 300, are currently unused due to significant issues with maintenance and a lack of caretakers. Most of these parks were developed between 2018 and 2021, and have since deteriorated considerably.
While major parks like Ibrahim Park and Science Park receive some attention, numerous others, especially those in interior residential areas, are in a neglected state. Overgrown vegetation, broken walkways, damaged amusement equipment, and dry fountains are common sights.
One park built near the Uzhavar Sandhai to enhance the Uyyakondan canal's beauty remains perpetually locked. Residents complain that the absence of caretakers makes these facilities serve no purpose. Civic activists urge the Tiruchi Corporation to address the maintenance gaps and post caretakers to prevent further decay.
