The forest department in Chandrapur has successfully captured a young tigress, T-139 SAF, bringing relief to local villagers. The tigress, estimated to be around 20 months old, had been a cause for concern for the past 15 days due to its proximity to human settlements and farms in the Talodhi range.
The animal was eventually trapped in compartment 168 of the reserved forest area near Mouza Balapur, a location it had frequently visited. It was reportedly preying on livestock in nearby villages such as Balapur and Yenoli Kot.
A coordinated effort involving territorial and wildlife officials, guided by Deputy Conservator of Forests Kumaraswamy SR, led to the capture. Veterinary officer Dr. Ravikant Khobragade oversaw the sedation, with Ajay Marathe administering the tranquillising dart. The Rapid Response Team from Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve also provided assistance. The tigress is now in confinement while authorities decide on her future.
