A 10-year-old tiger, affectionately known as Pujari, was found dead on Monday in the Khitauli range of Madhya Pradesh's Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. The tiger's demise is preliminarily attributed to a territorial clash in the Dhamdhama area.
Pujari was a favorite among tourists due to his unique ritual of bathing in a waterhole before roaming the forest. Field staff reported hearing roaring and fighting on Sunday night, prompting a search that located the carcass by Monday morning.
A team of veterinarians, an elephant patrol unit, a dog squad, and forensic experts arrived at the scene. While the body showed attack marks, all parts were intact. A post-mortem and detailed investigation will confirm the exact cause of death, adhering strictly to National Tiger Conservation Authority guidelines.
Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, known for its dense tiger population, is undergoing redevelopment of corridors to connect with other reserves. This initiative aims to facilitate tiger dispersal and mitigate the risks of fatal territorial conflicts.
