Summary
- A male tiger was discovered deceased in the South Umred Forest Range.
- All tiger body parts were intact, ruling out immediate poaching concerns.
- Postmortem and forensic reports are pending to determine the exact cause.

A male tiger, estimated to be between five and six years old, was found deceased on Saturday morning in the Chanoda area of the South Umred Forest Range. The discovery was made by local villagers who alerted forest staff after spotting the carcass in a stream.
Forest officials have initiated an investigation, noting that all of the tiger's body parts, including its skin and teeth, were intact, which initially suggests the death was not a result of poaching. Samples have been collected for thorough forensic analysis.
While villagers suspect lightning strikes during recent heavy thunderstorms might be the cause, forest authorities are awaiting the results of the postmortem examination and forensic reports. These reports are crucial for determining the precise cause of death before any conclusions are reached.
The tiger's body underwent a postmortem examination conducted by veterinarians in the presence of senior forest officials and representatives from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). Following the examination, the tiger was cremated according to protocol, and a forest offence has been registered. The Umred-Karhandla landscape, a significant tiger habitat in Maharashtra, has seen a consistent increase in its tiger population.
