18 Mar
Summary
- A tiger cub was found dead on private land, 20 km from Bandipur Tiger Reserve.
- Authorities suspect electrocution due to an illegal power connection to a fence.
- This marks the eighth tiger death in the district over the past nine months.

A female tiger cub was found deceased on private property approximately 20 kilometers from the Bandipur Tiger Reserve. Forest officials, alerted by drone surveillance, confirmed the cub's death, suspecting electrocution. The cub had reportedly been separated from its mother recently.
Investigation revealed an illegal electricity connection powering a fence surrounding the land, erected by the landowner and lessee to protect crops. This unlawful setup is believed to have caused the cub's death. Consequently, charges have been filed against the responsible parties under India's Wildlife Protection Act for the demise of a Schedule 1 animal.
This incident is the eighth tiger death reported in the district within the past nine months. Previous fatalities include tigers poisoned, killed and dismembered, and caught in snares in various locations within or near tiger reserves in the region.
