Thane & Mira Bhayandar Face 24-Hour Water Cut
5 Jun
Summary
- Water supply disrupted for 24 hours in Mira Bhayandar and Thane.
- The shutdown impacts areas reliant on Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) supply.
- Residents urged to store water and avoid wastage due to the full-day outage.

Mira Bhayandar and sections of Thane faced a complete 24-hour water supply suspension from 12 noon on June 4 until 12 noon on June 5. This interruption primarily impacted areas that receive their water from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) supply network. The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) initiated the shutdown as a precautionary measure, anticipating potential strain on water resources in the coming months.
During this period, the STEM Authority network continued operation, but weaker water pressure and delayed timings were expected in many areas until MIDC lines were restarted. Civic officials urged residents to conserve water, avoid non-essential uses like car washing, and ensure equitable distribution within buildings and neighborhoods. Similar restrictions were implemented in Thane, affecting localities drawing water from the MIDC-operated Jambhul treatment plant.
Thousands of residents in both Mira Bhayandar and Thane adjusted their routines, relying on stored water reserves. Authorities attributed the shutdown to essential maintenance and operational work on supply systems, alongside climate-related concerns like potential El Niño impacts. Conservation efforts were emphasized until regular supply patterns were fully restored.
