Telford has expanded its network of protected natural areas by designating two new Local Nature Reserves. Priorslee Flash and Heath Hill and Pool Hill are now officially recognized, increasing the borough's total to 22 such sites. These additions significantly boost the total protected green space to 670 hectares, an area equivalent to nearly 940 football pitches.
Priorslee Flash, a 33-hectare site shaped by historical mining, is now a haven for diverse wildlife, including protected bat species, various waterfowl, woodland birds, hedgehogs, and badgers. Accessible via tarmac footpaths and boardwalks, it offers visitors a pleasant walk. Heath Hill and Pool Hill, covering 15 hectares, also supports a rich array of wildlife, including bats, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and badgers, providing a more immersive experience for nature enthusiasts.
