Lone Tiger Roams Telangana: Tracking Operation Underway
28 Jan
Summary
- A lone tiger is actively tracked across Telangana's farmlands.
- Forest department employs tribal trackers and thermal drones for the hunt.
- Authorities urge public to avoid cattle kill sites to not disturb the tiger.
A coordinated, high-intensity operation is underway in Telangana to track a lone tiger moving through farmlands and village fringes. Seasoned tribal trackers, thermal drones, and tranquillizing teams have been deployed by the forest department to monitor the big cat's movements, which span over 20 kilometers daily. The tiger has been traversing agricultural landscapes across multiple districts, including Peddapally, Karimnagar, and Siddipet.
Officials are advising local residents and political representatives to avoid cattle kill sites, as repeated visits can disturb the tiger and prompt it to seek new prey areas. Thermal drones are used for night tracking, complemented by camera traps to gather evidence. The forest department, in coordination with district collectors and police, is ensuring public safety and law and order.
Specialist Koya and Chenchu trackers are assisting in tracing the animal, particularly around Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. Measures are being taken to prevent electrocution incidents by checking for illegal electric lines in fields. A multi-agency committee, including wildlife experts, is overseeing the operation, with support from neighboring Maharashtra's wildlife experts.
