Intense thunderstorms that moved through southwestern Ontario last week resulted in three confirmed weather events in the Tavistock area, according to the Northern Tornadoes Project.

A ground and drone survey confirmed two tornadoes and a downburst occurred on September 2.

The first tornado, rated EF0, began west of Tavistock and tracked into the community, causing minor damage to trees and shingles. It had estimated maximum winds of 125 km/h and a path length of 6.24 kilometers.

Shortly after, a second tornado developed near Shakespeare, north of Tavistock. This EF1 tornado reached estimated maximum winds of 155 km/h, traveled over 8 kilometers, and damaged several farm buildings, trees, and crops.

Both tornadoes converged toward a significant downburst that formed east of Tavistock. This downburst, also rated EF0 with winds up to 125 km/h, extended more than 17 kilometers to the east-southeast, damaging trees, farm outbuildings, and a home's roof.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported from any of the three confirmed weather events. The Northern Tornadoes Project concluded its ground surveys on September 4.
