Tamil Nadu is prioritizing climate action by integrating it across all government schemes, ensuring environmental considerations are embedded in governance. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that the state will formulate its own emission reduction targets by 2030, aligning with India's commitments under the Paris Agreement.
To enhance green cover, five lakh sandalwood saplings will be distributed statewide. Furthermore, industries and government bodies will collaborate on green technology investments to lower emissions. A new International Dugong Conservation Centre has been established in Thanjavur.
The TN-SHORE scheme was launched to sustainably harness ocean resources and promote a blue economy. This initiative includes revolving funds and micro-credit support for mangrove conservation committees, with initial allocations already distributed.
Financial assistance has also been provided through the Tamil Nadu Green Climate Fund to promote sustainable industrial practices. An MoU was signed to establish a Centre for Circular Economy at IIT Madras, fostering collaboration with international bodies.
