Kodagu's Tadiandamol Trek Set to Welcome Visitors Again
19 Sep
Summary
- Tadiandamol trekking to resume next week with enhanced safety protocols.
- New SOP mandates one guide for every 10 trekkers; local guides prioritized.
- Trekkers must register and pay via the Aranya Vihaara App for access.
Trekking activities at Tadiandamol, Kodagu's highest peak, are expected to resume within the next week. The forest department, in collaboration with the Karnataka Eco-Tourism Development Board (KEDB), has implemented a new standard operating procedure (SOP) to bolster visitor safety. These measures were introduced after a previous closure due to a missing trekker incident in April.
The updated SOP mandates that a guide accompany every group of 10 trekkers, with a fee of Rs 100 per trekker. Local guides have been prioritized for employment, with 92 individuals recently completing training in Kushalnagar, equipping them with skills in first aid and flora identification.
Registration and payment for trekking will now be managed through the Aranya Vihaara App. Additionally, trekkers can access an official KML route file for offline GPS tracking. While Tadiandamol is preparing for reopening with 20 assigned guides, other popular trekking routes like Kumara Parvatha and Nishani hills face guide shortages, with ongoing recruitment efforts for additional local applicants.
