Minister Bindu Krishna inaugurated the 'Susthira Kollam' project on Tuesday, an integrated initiative for sustainable development in the Kollam constituency. This comprehensive blueprint aims to transform Kollam into Kerala's pioneering climate-resilient territory, built on a circular economy. The project will meticulously map soil profiles, water bodies, and ecological zones.
Structured around eight sub-projects, 'Susthira Kollam' includes 'Water Positive Kollam' for water conservation, 'Zero Waste Kollam' for scientific waste management, and 'Energy Kollam' for green energy adoption. Other components focus on harmonizing agriculture with urban greening, promoting public well-being through parks, generating income via eco-friendly enterprises, empowering women through entrepreneurship, and modernizing the Kollam Port.
The Land Use department will utilize Geographic Information System (GIS) technology for a thorough resource survey. Collaboration among local governing bodies, State departments, and research institutions will drive the initiative, with the Land Use department leading technical coordination. Officials emphasized that collaborative decision-making and coordinated departmental efforts are crucial for the project's successful transformation of the district's landscape.
