16 Jul
Summary
- Suffolk County's Water Authority has implemented water restrictions.
- Restrictions impact customers in Southold, Shelter Island, Southampton, and East Hampton.
- Watering is prohibited between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.

Much of the Tri-State area is currently facing drought conditions, leading to water usage restrictions imposed by Suffolk County's Water Authority. These new regulations apply to all customers residing in the towns of Southold, Shelter Island, Southampton, and East Hampton.
Residents with odd-numbered addresses are permitted to water their lawns only on calendar days that are odd. Conversely, those with even-numbered addresses may only water on even-numbered days. Additionally, to conserve water and maintain essential pressure, no lawn watering is allowed between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The Suffolk County Water Authority emphasized the necessity of these restrictions. They stated that their infrastructure is nearing its maximum capacity due to the prevailing drought and heat. The primary goal is to ensure sufficient water pressure is available for indoor use and critical emergency response services, such as firefighting.
