Cornwall's Storm Goretti: Devastation Sprouts Renewal
7 Feb
Summary
- Storm Goretti caused widespread damage in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly.
- Some public gardens and businesses embrace renewal post-storm.
- Community efforts quickly repaired damage at Trevow theatre.

A month after Storm Goretti inflicted widespread damage across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, a surprising resurgence is evident. The storm, which brought 99mph winds and significant destruction, including a fatality, is considered one of the most impactful in 30-35 years.
Penlee Park in Penzance and St Michael's Mount are using the storm's impact as a chance to replant with rare and endangered species. Work is ongoing at St Michael's Mount to clear approximately 120 lost trees, creating a blank canvas for redesign by Autumn.
