- The boat was abandoned across a gate on a public footpath.
- Fly-tipping incidents have increased by nine per cent nationally.

A rural village in Bedfordshire has been left incensed by the fly-tipping of a 20ft speedboat, discovered more than 50 miles from the sea. The weathered vessel was found abandoned on a country lane in Sharnbrook, straddling a gate that blocked a public footpath. The discovery caused significant alarm and outrage among local residents.
Councillor Doug McMurdo described the situation as outrageous and a blight on the area, emphasizing its unacceptability. He noted that the boat still bears identification details, making it likely that the culprits will be identified and held responsible. The council is bearing the cost of removal.
Councillor McMurdo also commented that rural areas are frequent targets for fly-tipping due to their remoteness. This incident highlights a broader trend, as fly-tipping incidents across England have seen a nine per cent increase over the past year, according to DEFRA.
