10 Dec
Summary
- Riverside footpath closure for essential tree works for five days.
- Six historic lime trees in Shrewsbury's Quarry to be removed.
- Closure is from Monday, December 15 to Friday, December 19.

Victoria Avenue, a popular riverside footpath within Shrewsbury's Quarry park, is set to close for five days due to essential tree maintenance. The closure will be in effect from Monday, December 15th, to Friday, December 19th, impacting the section between Kingsland Bridge and St Julian's Friars Car Park. This measure is being taken to ensure public safety.
Shrewsbury Town Council has identified six historic lime trees that require removal. Recent inspections revealed internal decay and structural decline in these trees, many of which have surpassed their expected lifespan and are also affected by floodwater. The council aims to replace these trees once they have been safely removed.
During the five-day closure, diversion routes will be clearly signposted for affected users. Importantly, the remainder of The Quarry park will continue to be accessible to visitors. Town clerk Helen Ball emphasized the importance of this work for the continued care of the park's trees and public safety.
