Sheffield Trams Halt Amidst Extreme Heat
26 Jun
Summary
- Supertram services suspended due to extreme heat.
- Amber heat health alert in place for South Yorkshire.
- Passengers advised not to travel; bus tickets accepted.

Supertram services in Sheffield have been temporarily suspended across all lines due to extreme hot weather. The decision to halt services, effective from 13:30 BST, was made as temperatures were forecasted to reach their highest point of the week. This action comes as parts of South Yorkshire are under an amber heat health alert, with other regions of England facing similar warnings and even a red warning in London and the South East.
Customer and staff safety are paramount, according to a Supertram spokesperson. Services will resume once temperatures decrease and it is deemed safe to operate. In the interim, First and Stagecoach buses will accept Supertram tickets. Passengers have been advised not to travel. The Met Office has also issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms in North and West Yorkshire, anticipating potential disruptions including travel delays, power outages, and sudden flooding. Earlier, heavy rainfall caused localized flooding in Whitby, impacting road travel.
