Summary
- Over 133 bird species recorded in Shanghai Disney's wetland habitat.
- Marine biologist Asha de Vos shared whale communication research.
- Student projects focused on energy-saving innovations.

Shanghai Disney Resort recently hosted its annual nature conservation forum, coinciding with Earth Day. During the event, a research report was unveiled, focusing on the ecological progress within the resort's "wishing star park."
The report, "creating an urban wetland ecosystem: a case study of Shanghai Disney Resort's wishing star park," outlines how environmentally conscious design and operations have fostered significant wildlife development in an urban setting.
Data from 11 years of bird observations since 2015 reveal substantial ecological gains. As of March, 133 bird species and over 62,000 individual birds have been documented, with approximately 90 percent showing stable or increasing populations.
The forum also featured insights from National Geographic explorers. Marine biologist Asha de Vos presented her research on blue and sperm whales, detailing their complex communication and social structures. Huang Qiaowen discussed human-wildlife coexistence, emphasizing the importance of leopards as umbrella species for broader ecosystem protection.
To engage the younger generation, student representatives from the second youth environmental inspiration program showcased their projects. These submissions explored energy-saving innovations and environmental observations, selected from over 100 entries.
