Severna Park Faces Housing vs. Traffic Clash
9 Dec, 2025
Summary
- 135 townhomes proposed for Severna Park Golf Center property.
- Community split on affordable housing versus traffic/infrastructure.
- Councilmember Fiedler calls to halt development due to traffic.

Residents in Severna Park, Anne Arundel County, are engaged in a heated debate over a proposed development that would introduce 135 townhomes to the current Severna Park Golf Center site. The proposal has created a clear division within the community, with discussions focusing on the pressing need for affordable housing versus the existing burdens on local traffic and infrastructure.
Concerns about traffic congestion have become a focal point, with District 5 County Councilmember Amanda Fiedler publicly advocating for the plan to be immediately withdrawn. Fiedler stated that the number of proposed townhomes would exacerbate existing traffic challenges along the Rt. 2 corridor and nearby College Parkway.
Paul Spadaro, president of the Magothy River Association, also highlighted the geographical limitations that make traffic mitigation difficult. He further voiced concerns regarding the potential environmental impact on the Magothy River watershed, suggesting that increased development could worsen existing environmental issues.
