Severe thunderstorms have recently swept across the Mediterranean region and the northeastern United States. In North Africa, Algeria and Tunisia experienced significant hailstorms, with accumulations reaching up to 3cm deep in places like Oum Ladjoul and Hammam Sokhna. Hailstones of up to 3cm in diameter also fell in Makthar, Tunisia.
Central Italy was similarly affected by intense weather. On Wednesday morning, thunderstorms over Sicily led to severe downpours. Ascoli Piceno recorded over 52.1cm of rain in just over an hour, and Mosciano Sant'Angelo saw 62.3mm fall in under two hours. Heavy rain was also noted in the Sicilian town of Bagheria.
Meanwhile, the northeastern United States also endured severe storms. In Dane County, Wisconsin, a supercell produced baseball-sized hailstones, measuring approximately 7cm in diameter. The following day, storms spread into Ohio, and even larger softball-sized hailstones, up to 11.5cm, were reported near Kansas City.
