As winter approaches in 2025, the Scottish government's Warmer Homes Scotland (WHS) program is urging families to take advantage of its energy efficiency initiatives. Managed by Warmworks, the scheme has already saved Scots around £17.5 million on their heating bills since its establishment in 2015.
The program provides funding for a range of home upgrades, including wall and loft insulation, draught-proofing, renewable energy systems, and new central heating systems such as air source heat pumps or gas boilers. Warmworks, the organization overseeing the initiative, has confirmed that it is on track to have supported 50,000 households by the end of this year.
"We are proud to have helped so many Scots cut their energy bills in recent years," said Warmworks CEO Ross Armstrong. "The upgrades we have carried out have had a transformational impact, lifting many families out of fuel poverty." With the average household saving £350 under the scheme, the total savings have reached an impressive £17.5 million.
The Scottish government has further boosted funding for the WHS program by £20 million this year, allowing an additional 1,500 households to reduce their fuel bills. Experts emphasize that warm and energy-efficient homes are vital not only for tackling climate change but also for addressing child poverty and health inequalities.
