Salvation Army Offers Heat Aid Amidst Deadly Temps
10 Jul
Summary
- Extreme heat is the deadliest weather hazard in the U.S.
- Cooling stations provide shelter, water, and food to vulnerable residents.
- Financial aid available for low-income families facing high utility bills.

Extreme heat, recognized as the leading cause of weather-related fatalities in the United States, has spurred The Salvation Army of North Texas to activate its heat relief protocol. This response includes deploying 13 cooling and hydration stations across five counties: Dallas, Denton, Collin, Ellis, and Tarrant.
These vital centers offer immediate shelter, sustenance, and hydration to residents most at risk during the current heatwave, which has pushed regional heat index levels into triple digits. Mobile feeding units, known as canteens, are also bringing essential supplies directly to those without shelter.
Beyond immediate cooling services, The Salvation Army is extending financial assistance to low-income families and individuals grappling with escalating summer utility expenses. This initiative aims to support vulnerable neighbors not only during the immediate crisis but also contribute to their long-term well-being.
