This land is vital for numerous wildlife species and features vernal pools, supporting migratory birds and other animals.
The acquisition is a cornerstone in the plan to establish a 10,000-acre natural habitat corridor stretching from Folsom to Rancho Murieta. This corridor will connect important watersheds, allowing wildlife to migrate between different elevations in response to food sources. The initiative aims to counteract the rapid growth and housing development encroaching on previously open spaces.
This conservation effort aligns with the statewide objective to protect 30% of land by 2030, ensuring clean air and water. The Sacramento Valley Conservancy plans to leverage future funding, including from Proposition 4, to continue protecting critical natural landscapes in the region.
