The Dehradun district administration is initiating the first phase of the Rispana river rejuvenation project, with clean-up efforts scheduled to commence within the next week. This initial phase will focus on a nearly 10km section of the river, extending from Barloganj to Kathbangla. Municipal bodies are actively coordinating with various non-governmental organizations to implement the project. Workers have already been mobilized for the extensive clean-up operations. Key activities planned for this phase include the construction of small check dams in the upper catchment areas to enhance groundwater recharge, extensive tree plantation drives, and beautification efforts. Furthermore, measures will be taken for the scientific disposal of solid waste. The project also aims to treat sewage and wastewater before it enters the river by installing mesh screens in drains to intercept solid waste and single-use plastics. The administration will leverage technical expertise from professionals associated with the Sabarmati river rejuvenation project and engage environmental volunteers and civil society organizations. Strict actions, including fines, will be imposed on individuals found dumping waste into the river.
