17 Jul
Summary
- Diploma students created a community garden on an industrial estate.
- The garden promotes nature, relaxation, and healthy lifestyles.
- The transformation revitalized an overgrown and unloved area.

A previously overgrown and unloved area on Surrey's Slyfield trading estate has been transformed into a thriving community garden by diploma students from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). The initiative, situated at Lockwood Studios, a creative hub near Guildford, successfully created a haven designed to foster links with nature, conversation, and relaxation.
The students' efforts have been met with significant praise, with co-manager Craig Hills highlighting the remarkable transformation. He noted that the new garden aligns perfectly with the vision for the site, which offers a diverse range of activities including music, boxing, and workshops.
Student Caroline Mantell's design was particularly commended for its practical applications and its thoughtful provision for local flora and fauna. This project exemplifies how horticultural expertise can revitalize industrial spaces, turning them into valuable community assets.
