Lion Rescued From Cruel Captivity
5 Jul
Summary
- Lion rescued from private Karachi zoo after viral distress image.
- Animal suffered tail trauma, stunted growth due to neglect.
- Now recovering at Pakistan's first purpose-built wildlife sanctuary.
A lion, once held in a private Karachi zoo and whose image sparked public outcry online, has been successfully rescued and relocated to an animal sanctuary. Animal activists intervened after the lion's poor condition became widely known. The big cat exhibited clear signs of tail trauma, a painful method used to control animals, and stunted growth likely due to inbreeding.
Further examinations revealed severe deficiencies in calcium and Vitamin D, compromising its skeletal structure. These issues are partly irreversible, highlighting a system prioritizing profit over animal welfare. The lion is now under quarantine and medical evaluation at Primal Earth Wildlife Sanctuary (PEWS), Pakistan's inaugural purpose-built facility for captive wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
