Red Arrows Grounded by Thunderstorms
29 Aug
Summary
- Red Arrows canceled two flypasts due to thunderstorm conditions.
- Weather and airspace restrictions prevented rescheduled flights.
- Poor weather also canceled RAF Wyton Families' Day display.

The Red Arrows, the RAF's aerobatic team, had their planned flypasts over Sidmouth on Friday, August 28, canceled due to adverse weather conditions. Thunderstorm conditions at their operating base, RAF Mildenhall, initially prevented take-off for the transit to Liverpool, during which the flypasts were scheduled.
Due to airspace restrictions, the team could not indefinitely delay the performance times. A spokesperson confirmed the aircraft were held on the ground, delaying the departure to Liverpool. This marks a second cancellation, as the team had already altered plans on Thursday due to weather and operational constraints.
Furthermore, the poor weather led to the cancellation of the RAF Wyton Families' Day display on Thursday afternoon. The Sidmouth Regatta, scheduled for the weekend, was set to feature numerous aerial displays from various groups, alongside other regatta activities.
The UK has recently experienced a shift from hot weather to heavy rain and widespread thunderstorm warnings. The Met Office forecasts continued rain in some areas, with potential for heavy, possibly thundery showers and strong winds across England and Wales on Saturday.
