Recycling Company Employees Fined Over $1,700 for Illegal Waste Dumping
4 Oct, 2025
Summary
- Security footage captured employees illegally dumping commercial waste
- Waste included plastic, wooden pallets, and up to 30 black bags
- Fines totaled over $1,700 for the two employees
On October 4, 2025, Middlesbrough Council announced that a British business owner and his employee were fined for illegally dumping commercial waste in an east coast community. Ian Rumble, the owner of Teesside Recycling Services, and his co-worker Carl Timlin were caught on security footage disposing of up to 30 black bags of commercial waste in a residential dumpster, rather than properly processing the materials.
The pair also left wooden and plastic pallets nearby. Commercial waste, such as the items dumped, can pose significant environmental risks. Plastic waste can harm wildlife and introduce microplastics into the food supply, while food waste can create methane and exacerbate weather disasters.
Rumble was ultimately fined £915 (over $1,200 USD) and Timlin £418 (over $560 USD) for their actions. Middlesbrough Councillor Ian Blades stated that there is "no excuse" for the "illegal and irresponsible dumping of waste," and hopes this enforcement will serve as a deterrent to others tempted to cut corners on proper waste disposal.
