Reading Festival: Tents left behind despite pleas

Many attendees of the Reading Festival ignored pleas to take their tents home, with hundreds still visible on the site on Tuesday, September 2, 2026. Festival Republic had aimed for no tents to be left behind after the event, which drew approximately 100,000 people.
While the company noted a decrease in discarded tents compared to previous decades, with two-thirds of tents being taken home from the Richfield Avenue site after the 2025 festival, a substantial amount were still left behind. Festival Republic has pledged to return the entire site to its natural condition within a fortnight of the festival concluding on August 30, 2026. They reported seeing meaningful change regarding abandoned tents at both Reading and their sister festival in Leeds.
Organizers had also offered a Co-Op voucher incentive for attendees who demonstrated they were taking their tents home.
