Rawalpindi Submerged: Rain Floods Homes, Disrupts City
4 Aug
Summary
- Heavy rain caused significant flooding in Rawalpindi's low-lying areas.
- Water levels reached two to three feet in homes and shops, disrupting traffic.
- Authorities are on high alert as more rain is forecasted for the twin cities.

Rawalpindi was lashed by light to heavy rains on August 4, 2026, causing extensive flooding and a temperature drop to 27 degrees Celsius. Low-lying areas in the city and cantonment became submerged, with rainwater entering homes and shops to a depth of two to three feet. A major drain overflowed in Dhok Khaba, exacerbating the situation.
The accumulation of water on main roads significantly disrupted traffic, leaving vehicles stranded, including an ambulance. Residents cited long-standing issues with uncleaned drains and uncleared garbage as contributing factors. Wasa and district authorities, along with Civil Defence and Rescue 1122, are on high alert.
The Meteorological Department recorded substantial rainfall across the twin cities, with more expected in the next 24 hours due to ongoing monsoon currents and a westerly wave. Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are forecast for Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper and central Punjab, and northeastern Balochistan, with isolated heavy downpours possible.
