On Thursday, the Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) conducted a clean-up drive along Rawal Lake's shores, uncovering a substantial amount of hazardous material. Organized in connection with World Environment Day, the initiative involved volunteers, students, and community members. The campaign aimed to raise critical awareness about the dangers posed by improper medical waste disposal and the pervasive issue of plastic pollution in freshwater bodies.
Director General Pak-EPA Syed Abrar Hussain emphasized that the drive was more than just waste collection, calling for a fundamental shift in humanity's relationship with nature. He urged continuous efforts beyond single-day events to foster lasting habits for environmental protection.
Meanwhile, Senator Sherry Rehman warned on World Environment Day that Pakistan's environmental crisis is an unfolding reality impacting economic stability, food and water security, and public health, underscoring the nation's vulnerability to climate change.
